It’s a thrill to watch our local hummingbirds at the feeder. They inspired me to do these paintings (with the help of Mark Fuller’s inspirational photos).

This is a male Broad-tailed Hummingbird. You might hear a musical trilling sound made that is by his wings when he flies.


It looks like a hummingbird uses its beak to get nectar from a flower. However, the beak is a protective sheath for its tongue, which is what the hummingbird uses to get the nectar.

A Rufous Hummingbird (maybe itchy)!
